Why intimacy with God?

You have probably heard that God wants to have a relationship with you. But why is it so important?

God knew that a broken relationship with Him would mean eternal death for humanity. The disobedience of mankind brought about death as a punishment.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Rom 6:23

Jesus was punished in our place. How was He punished? By death! Sin is so serious that it is penalized with death, and Jesus died in our place, so that we can have life instead. Now because we are forgiven, we can have a relationship with God. Because Jesus was already punished for our sins, we don’t have to be punished for it, and we can have eternal life!

For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Rom 5:7-8

God loved us so much that while we were sinners, He made a way for us to have relationship with Him, so that anyone who believes in Jesus can be saved from hell!

This is why God is so serious about mankind’s relationship with Him, because He doesn’t want you to suffer what Jesus suffered; the death of a sinner we actually deserve. He rescued you from the domain of darkness, and engrafted you into the kingdom of light.

You belong to God, so you have everlasting life. What a joy!
